It’s a cold and rainy May 25th, a day on which many significant historical events occurred  – the end of the Conojocular War in 1738; the United Irishmen Rebellion, the Carnew, Dunlavin and Carlow massacres in 1798; the Chuquisaca Rebellion of 1809, which triggered the South American Wars of Independence; the 1810 May Revolution, which began with the ejection, from Buenos Aires, of Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros, and which led to the Argentine War of Independence; the creation, nine years later, of the Argentinian Constitution; the passing, in 1833, of the Chilean Constitution; and the passing, in 1914, of the Home Rule Act, intending self-rule in Ireland.

I’d also like to bring your attention to a couple of the lighter days this date commemorates – it’s Towel Day (for the wondrous Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker trilogy), Glorious 25 May (Terry Pratchett’s Diskworld), the 35th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: A New Hope and, wholly fittingly, Geek Pride Day.

It’s also only 918 days until the election (how embarrassing – when Lisa asked me yesterday I couldn’t remember the count!), which is 2 years, 6 months and 4 days (that part I could recall).

It’s also 150 days since I started counting down – and hasn’t the time flown?

I have to have a pre-night shift nap, so know that my passion is undiminished, but righteous ire makes for poor sleep, and on Monday I’ll be at full rant – and how fortunate for me that this government will almost certainly have done at least one new outrageous thing to compound the height of the pile they’ll be figuratively defenestrated into (and if that sentence makes no sense, scroll down to Wednesday’s update). A lovely weekend to you all!
